This 2.5 hour throwing taster session is suitable for complete beginners or those who have previously tried throwing and would like a reminder lesson. Taught by resident potter, Amy Mills, you will be guided through a quick demonstration of how to prepare the clay and safely use the wheel. From there you will have the rest of the session to experiment while Amy is at hand to help if your pots get a bit wobbly!
Halfway through we will have a tea break, or you are welcome to bring something a bit stronger. At the end of our session, if you’ve had some throwing success, you will be able to select your favourite pot to keep. When your pot is completely dry, it will go in the kiln for its first ‘bisque’ firing.
We have a choice of three glaze colours from which you can choose your favourite for us to use on your pot. We will use this glaze before putting your pot in for its second ‘glaze’ firing which will fire the pot to stoneware (1250C). The pot is then wrapped and packed, ready to be given back to you. This process can take up to 5-6 weeks, once they are ready, we will contact you and arrange a collection or possible delivery.
Each 2.5 hour taster session is £60 per person. The sessions run every Wednesday and there is a choice of an afternoon (2:30pm – 5pm) slot or an evening (6pm – 8:30pm) slot. Please note there is a maximum of 4 people per session and our throwing sessions are in high demand. To check availability see our bookings.
Things to consider:
- Pottery is messy but clay washes out very easily
- For health and safety, hair should be worn up
